Kuhara built his Copper Mine in the town of Hitachi

Kuhara purchased a small mine in the town of Hitachi in 1905

Kuhara built the company up.  These are his team heads.

He built up the copper mine so that it tied with the old mine he worked at, to be 2nd most productive in Japan.   He had 6200 employees and built a town to accommodate his employees.

He built homes for his workers and families.

Kuhara entertains Russian Czar's brother 1915 at Kobe House

My grandfather had these photos taken in 1916 of his Kobe estate, and made into a book to give to his guest, the Czar of Russia's brother.

He lost the estate when it washed away in a flood.  The photo above is where it once stood, but now covered with high rent apartments.

This machine shop at the mine, is the birth of Hitachi Electric.  They built the first 5 horsepower electric motor in Japan.

These are more photos taken at the Kobe estate for the Czar's brother.  The floor here is composed entirely of wood knots.

This lantern was brought to the Mining museum from his last estate.

Bust of my grandfather, who is featured in this museum.

The Kuhara family crest is composed of 5 fans.  I remember this lantern when I was a boy, at his Shirokane-dai residence.

This is Happoen, which is a very famous estate in the middle of Tokyo.  It is now a huge wedding and banquet facility.  My mother spent her teenage years growing up here.
